Got a Nodachi, it's pretty cool

So, I finally got around to ordering that Nodachi I've been eyeing. The website was easy enough to navigate, though there were a ton of options for customization that kinda overwhelmed me at first. I just went with one of their standard setups. It took about three weeks to get here, which wasn't too bad considering it came from pretty far. When it showed up, it was packed really well, no damage or anything. The sword itself feels pretty good, nice and long, just what I wanted. It's sitting on my wall now and looks awesome. Had a small issue with tracking updates being a bit slow, but it got here eventually. Pretty happy with it.

Thinking about getting a sword from Ryan Sword but also looking at Hanbon Forge. Any thoughts on Ryan Sword vs Hanbon Forge for a functional katana?

Both are decent for the money. Ryan Sword generally has a bit more customization options in my experience, and sometimes their fittings can be a step up. Hanbon is also good though, maybe slightly more consistent with their entry-level stuff. Can't really go wrong with either for a functional piece.

I've bought from both. Ryan Sword usually feels a bit more 'boutique' with their customization. Hanbon Forge is solid and reliable. For a functional katana, I'd say compare the specific models you're looking at and their prices, sometimes one has a better deal on something comparable. Quality is pretty similar overall.

Nah, pretty sure you can only use one discount at a time. Like, either a coupon code OR your loyalty points. I tried to combine a holiday sale with points once and it didn't work.

I think most sites only let you use one promo at checkout. You can usually choose which one gives you the better deal. Loyalty points probably have their own redemption system separate from a coupon code.

Does Ryan Sword ship to Canada? And roughly how much extra is shipping for a full-size katana to say, Toronto?

They do ship to Canada, yeah. Not sure on the exact cost, but it's probably gonna be a bit pricey since it's an international shipment for a long, heavy item. Expect at least 50-80 bucks, maybe more for customs/duties.

Yup, they ship worldwide. For shipping a katana, it's usually around $50-$70 depending on the weight and specific destination. Plus you might get hit with import fees once it crosses the border, so factor that in.

Anyone know if Ryan Sword is legit? Like, are their swords actually good quality or just cheap knockoffs? Been looking at a T10 clay tempered katana.

Totally legit. They're based out of Longquan, China, which is like, the sword-making capital. Lots of places get their stuff from there. The clay tempered T10 katanas are generally well-regarded for the price.

They're real. Been around for a while making swords. I've bought two from them, and they've both been solid. Not high-end museum pieces but definitely functional and well-made for the price point.

From what I hear, custom stuff can take a while cause it's all handmade. I'd expect at least a few weeks for production before shipping even starts. Shipping to the US usually adds another week or two.

Yeah, I ordered a custom one last year, it took about 3-4 weeks for them to actually build it before they even shipped it out. Then another 10 days or so to get to me in Texas. So give it some time.
